We - Dig - It: Theo Jansen’s Strandbeest

Our friend Michelle, who loves all things design, thought we should check out this entertaining video of Theo Jansen’s Strandbeest.

Since 1990, Jansen has been creating a second life for plastic yellow tubes, bottles and canvas. Possibly the most artistic use of recyclable goods that we have come across.  These friendly beasts- called Animari- and are fueled by the natural environment and come to life when gusts of wind propel them to explore freely.
They’ve showed up at Tokyo in show rooms and have been set free to roam Trafalgar Square in London.

You can check out more at Theo Jenson’s homepage or his live streaming webcam, which features the beast’s creation.
